Authentic hand crafted silver Egyptian Coptic Cross, in fabulous
condition
dated to be from 324 - 600 AD. A certificate of authenticity is

The Coptic cross pendant featured on this necklace is approximately
1400
years old! This is one of the nicest we have seen from this time. The
necklace measures 20" long and consists of 3 strands of new labrodorite
beads
in 4 different shapes; round, cube, brick and ovals. The labrodorite
beads
exhibit beautiful iridescence and flashes of blue when turned in the
light.
The new clasp and other silver beads were hand made in Bali. The hook
clasp
has 2 deep red garnet cabochon in the center surrounded with beautiful
filigree details. Truly a treasure....
Labrodorite is a shimmery gem, usually khaki green and gray, with
characteristic flashes of Blue Fire, called "Labradorescence".
Labrodorite
was discovered in 1770 on the Labrador Peninsula, thus its name.
The first crosses known in Ethiopia were probably imported from
Christian
Egypt around 400 A.D., and were developed in ways not found elsewhere
in
Christianity. This is because pagan symbols with triangles, circles,
and
crosses were already being used in solar and fertility rites. The
Abyssinian
church was, unique in the way it had absorbed its Judaic, Persian,
Armenian
and Muslim roots. Crosses in Ethiopian churches and monasteries and in
public and private collections date from the 12th century and earlier,
they
are still being made today. See our Ethiopian crosses in One of a Kind!
